His Majesty's Minister in a despatch dated 29th, January ew attention to the importance of publicity work amongst the

slema and asked for a precise report as to what steps had

ready been taken by the Committee in that direction. 415° mmittee submitted a memorandum in reply on February 3rd de- iling at length the steps they had already taken and SIBOTHE

resh steps taken by them immediately on receipt of the above

aspatch. The efforts of the Committee had included the

josting of the Moshi Document and two proclamations of the

heroff of Mecca, The circulation of the Ch'ang Pao in the

orth West Frovinces is mainly in the hands of the British-

merican Tobacco Company and missionaries and there was no

yson to think that the mosques were ignored, His Majesty's

neul-General at Kashgar is also giving considerable

he-istance to the Committee in the distribution of literature

mont Moslems, Mr. G. F. Andrew of the China Inland Mission

at Lanchowfu, Kansu, a Mahommedan centrs, is one of the

Committee's most active agents. He has been receiving 200

topies of the Ch'eng ruo, His supply has now been increased

to 1000 and he has been asked to report upon work among

Foslons. 2000 copies of the latest proclamation of the

Shereef of Mecca have also been sent to him. In addition to

this distribution, literature has been supplied for work

mong Moslems in Chinkiang, Wuhu, Hankow, Manchuria, Poochow, Hinghwa, Hwaian, Yenenfu, Sianfu, Honan, Siwokan, Chuchen in

hul, Chantsun and Tsinan.

The Committee have had further correspondence with the

American Consul-General regarding the inaus of this pamphlet

which has been translated into Chinese by Mr. 0. C. Crawford,

jan American missionary at Soochow, The expense of issuing

10,000 copies would be 342000 and the Committee have offered
